The Proverbs 31 Wife
The Proverbs 31:10-31 passage is a place highlighted and marked in my bible. It is the foundation for many of my bible studies and will forever be my “go to” scripture for my personal growth and encouragement as a wife. I know I spend so much time reading this passage over and over because no marriage is perfect- including mine! Marriage is often referred to as two imperfect people that choose to spend the rest of their lives together. As an imperfect person, I am more than happy to invest in marital wisdom from the God who created marriage in the first place! Welcome to my latest WifeLife series… WifeLife…The Proverbs 31 Wife!
“Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:10 NKJV
Let’s start with a few fun facts!
- Large gem-quality rubies are more valuable than diamonds of comparable size and are considered more rare.
- The Sunrise Ruby, a 25.6 carat Burmese red gemstone, sold for a little over $30 million.
- Pure red rubies are so rare there is no trade data available, which is astonishing considering the resources and technology we have today.
- When comparing the value of Rubbies at 5+ carats, they are far more valuable than others on the market:
- Ruby $100,000/ct
- Alexandrite $70,000/ct
- Diamond $44,500/ct
- Sapphire $34,000/ct
- Emerald $23,000/ct
I do not know about you, but I would love to think that my husband has found a virtuous wife! What better investment could he make than to marry a woman whose value is worth far above rubies!
Let’s be honest. In the world we live in today, a virtuous woman is becoming harder to be. The world continuously tells us what and how a woman/wife should look and behave like, but most of those views are worldly opinions not based on how our creator intended wives to be! I consider a virtuous woman invaluable- worth as much as the pure red rubies for which there is no available trade data!
I am far from perfect, but I do know one thing, I do not want to be a synthetic! I do not want to “look the part” on the outside but be a complete fake and lack value in my marriage. I want my husband to feel every day as if I am worth far more than the Sunrise Ruby that sold for $30 million! Actually, if I do the math on how much I weigh and convert to carats, I am 301,639 ct, so I am going to have fun and say I am worth about $352,917.63 million. I think that is one of the few times I have been excited to weigh more than less! But the value is not just the weight, it is the clarity on the inside, the purity of the gem itself.
The value my husband places on me will not be driven by the loads of laundry I do. No, this kind of worth must come from what he sees coming from within. Worth of this magnitude can only be that of true virtue/noble character. This kind of WifeLife, we will be discovering throughout the Proverbs 31 wife series.
